Advent Day 2 and Why Getting Killed in my Stories is a REALLY REALLY GOOD THING! (really…)

Is 4:2-6

On that day,
The branch of the LORD will be luster and glory,
and the fruit of the earth will be honor and splendor
for the survivors of Israel.
He who remains in Zion
and he who is left in Jerusalem
Will be called holy:
every one marked down for life in Jerusalem.
When the LORD washes away
the filth of the daughters of Zion,
And purges Jerusalem’s blood from her midst
with a blast of searing judgment,
Then will the LORD create,
over the whole site of Mount Zion
and over her place of assembly,
A smoking cloud by day
and a light of flaming fire by night.
For over all, the LORD’s glory will be shelter and protection:
shade from the parching heat of day,
refuge and cover from storm and rain.

Responsorial Psalm

R. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.
I rejoiced because they said to me,
“We will go up to the house of the LORD.”
And now we have set foot
within your gates, O Jerusalem.
R. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.
Jerusalem, built as a city
with compact unity.
To it the tribes go up,
the tribes of the LORD.
R. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.
According to the decree for Israel,
to give thanks to the name of the LORD.
In it are set up judgment seats,
seats for the house of David.
R. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
May those who love you prosper!
May peace be within your walls,
prosperity in your buildings.
R. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.
Because of my relatives and friends
I will say, “Peace be within you!”
Because of the house of the LORD, our God,
I will pray for your good.
R. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

When Jesus entered Capernaum,
a centurion approached him and appealed to him, saying,
“Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.”
He said to him, “I will come and cure him.”
The centurion said in reply,
“Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof;
only say the word and my servant will be healed.
For I too am a man subject to authority,
with soldiers subject to me.
And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes;
and to another, ‘Come here,’ and he comes;
and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him,
“Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith.
I say to you, many will come from the east and the west,
and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
at the banquet in the Kingdom of heaven.

Lets try this again…maybe I can keep Firefox from crashing and only saving the title of this blog, and none on the actual text…

So, I’ve noticed something this year that I’ve never ever noticed. These readings are just chock a block with call to repentance and references to things that are going to happen after the judgment. We often forget in these times of Fluffy Bunny Jesus, that, hey, sin-it’s real. And Judgment? It’s gonna happen!

Downer? Well, maybe. But, here’s the thing, we have- get this- not a judge, but a High Priest, who lived a human life. Mind you, He was, yep, sinless, but, He was there. A High Priest who is the Worthy Lamb, Savior, Prince of Peace

Another thing that modern mushy, depressing Christmas seems to TOTALLY miss is thatJesus came for a reason! Not so we can all have a “White Christmas”. But, he came because we are sinners, and we have the need of salvation. What did the angel say to the shepherds?

“Do not be afraid;
for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy
that will be for all the people.
For today in the city of David
a savior has been born for you who is Christ and Lord.
And this will be a sign for you:
you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes
and lying in a manger.”

A Savior. One who SAVES! I Don’t know about you, but, man, that’s pretty freakin exciting!

And now for something COMPLETELY different…

So, they Spy Saga continues…My Dearest friend still objects to the fact that I offed her. But, I think that, maybe, I may have finally given a good reason for ending that characters life…”but, you were like Spy Claire(whose actual name is Karen…)’s connection to the real world…you’ll have to read it to understand why THAT character has to go…no one else’s death in the story would have the same impact…”

There was also some objection to the fact that she wasn’t a spy…well, all my spies where, at that time, totally made up characters. I’ve changed that since then and have my spies generally people by, well, semi-real life people. I dunno, maybe I can split her personality in half and make her two people? One a spy and the other a  link to humanity that get’s killed?? The things I do for people… 😛

On the slightly more realistic front, this semester, and my college attempt, are SWIFTLY coming to a close. So very much bitter sweet. Will have more on that at some other point, most likely when I finally resolve in my head the whole spy/MAJOR story point conflict…we shall see…
